About Us

What We Do

The County Clerk provides a variety of essential services to the public including:

  • Vital Records: Maintain and issue certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and civil union records
  • Recording Land Records: Record and maintain land records and other recorded documents
  • Property Tax Extension: Calculate property tax rates based on property values and tax levies, bond schedules and ordinances from taxing bodies
  • Property Tax Redemption: Collect property taxes for amounts that have gone to the annual tax sale; posting fees and providing estimates of redemption
  • Marriage and Civil Union Licenses: issue and maintain completed record
  • Assumed Name Filings: Receive certificates of ownership and supplemental certificates from sole proprietors and partnerships; issue certificate upon process completion & maintain registry
  • Statement of Economic Interests: Mail form to individuals determined by governmental bodies and file completed forms
  • County Board Meetings: Clerk meetings, prepare minutes, maintain official resolutions/documents and certify records 
  • County Code: Update and make accessible
  • Raffle & Poker Run Licenses: Review for compliance and issue licenses
  • Liquor Licenses: Assist liquor commissioner in issuing licenses by review applications for compliance, maintaining records and handling yearly renewal process 
  • Contracts: Receive and maintain completed contracts
  • Notary Commissions: Distribute State certificate upon individual's signature and maintain log
  • Plat Certification: certify taxes have been paid
  • Various Filings Received: oaths, bonds, reports, etc.

Freedom of Information Copy Fees

Some document types have fees specifically allowable by State law that are exempt from standard FOIA fees. Examples include birth certificates, marriage records and recorded documents. For others:

  • Landfill Number 3 Siting Application Documents
    • $0.50 per page if reproducible internally
    • Copies other than 8.5 by 14 inches: Actual cost of reproduction
  • Black and white copies
    • 8.5 by 11 and 8.5 by 14 inches: First 50 pages are free
    • $0.15 per page thereafter
  • Copies maintained in electronic format and emailed or sent on CD: free
  • Copies larger than 8.5 by 14 inches and color: Actual cost of reproduction
