Real Estate Tax Payment Options

A Message to Peoria County Taxpayers from Nicole Bjerke, Peoria County Treasurer

Several options are available for you to consider when paying your Peoria County property taxes. Please choose a method of payment that will be convenient for you and will give you the best assurance that your payment will arrive on time and have a proper U.S. Postal Service postmark (if you choose to mail your payment). We ask that you plan the timing of your payment so that you will be assured it gets to us on or before the due date. The 2022 property tax due dates are June 6th and September 6th.

We accept cash, personal checks, credit cards, cashiers checks, and money orders. Do not send cash if you are paying by mail. If paying by check, do not postdate any check. If your check is returned by the bank for any reason, you will be charged a $25.00 returned check fee. When paying by money order, we urge you to obtain and keep a paid receipt for the taxes you paid. If, for some reason, you might have to provide future proof of payment of taxes, it is usually impossible to obtain the original of any money order that has been cashed. Depending on your form of payment (cash, check, etc.), please choose one of the following methods to make that payment, so that it is timely and avoids late payment penalties as required by law! Only cash, certified/cashier check, money order or credit card payments will be accepted after October 9, 2023.

Methods of Payment for Current Real Estate Tax Payments Only

(no mobile home or delinquent/back taxes)

As a reminder, installments must be paid in full. Partial payments will be returned, and taxes will remain unpaid until the full installment payment is received. Payments made after their due dates are subject to penalties.

Credit cards and checks for tax payments cannot be combined for payment.

This payment option should not be used for paying delinquent back taxes!! Please contact the County Clerk's office at 309-672-6059 for payment options on taxes that have been sold. The county is not liable for additional costs added by the tax buyer for any delay in payment processing for people using this method to attempt to pay their back taxes.

Mobile home taxes should be mailed or brought into the Treasurer's office. Electronic payments or credit card payments are not available for mobile home payments.

Pay in Person

Pay in person at our office in the Peoria County Courthouse.

No worry about the payment being on time but you may have to stand in line if waiting until the due date to pay. If you choose this option, it's best to come to our office a few days ahead of the due date. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pay by mailing your check to us

If you mail your payment, please mail early and use the mailing address as it appears on your tax statement. Also, be sure to put the correct amount of postage on the envelope - including extra postage for oversized and/or heavy envelopes. We cannot accept mail that has postage due. Mailed payments must have a Postal Service postmark on or before the due date to avoid a late-penalty. Do not assume the post office will put the current day postmark on your envelope if dropped off at a mail receptacle after the posted pickup time.  A postage meter imprint will not be accepted as proof of timely payment.

Pay in person at a participating bank

Some banks in Peoria County will accept your payment. If paying at a bank, your tax bill payment stub must be present with the payment, banks will not accept it without the tax bill nor do they accept any type of partial payment. In general, these banks may accept your payments only during their regular business hours from about May 1st through the second installment due date.

See the list of participating banks.
