General Tax Information
County Collector
The Treasurer is also the County Collector. In this role, the Treasurer bills and collects real estate taxes. For the tax year 2021 payable 2022, the Peoria County Treasurer mailed out approximately 83,000 real estate tax bills. Over $325 million was collected and distributed to over 150 taxing districts within Peoria County every 4 weeks during tax collection time. These districts include governmental bodies and schools.
Tax Bills
Tax bills for 2022 are scheduled to be mailed by May 1, 2023. If you do not receive your tax bill by May 15th, contact the Peoria County Treasurer's office at 672-6065 opt #5. Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse you from your real estate obligation or accrued penalties. You can also print a tax bill by accessing the Peoria County Property Tax Information. Be sure to change the year to 2022 for current tax information if it doesn't default to 2022.
Single Tax Bill
In Peoria County, a single tax bill is issued for the full year's taxes. That bill is payable in two equal installments. Peoria County taxpayers do not receive a second bill when the second installment is due. The first installment due date is June 6, 2023 and the second installment due date is September 6, 2023. As required by State Statues, taxes paid or postmarked after the due dates of June 6th and September 6th must include a penalty. There is no grace period. The penalty is computed at 1.5% per month or any portion of the month.

Methods of Payment
The following methods of payment are accepted:
- Cash
- Certified/cashiers check
- Check
- Credit Cards (Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover) (online or by phone only)
- Electronic Check (online or by phone only)
- Money Order
Checks
Checks should be made payable to Peoria County Collector. Your parcel number should be written in the memo section of your check. Please note that personal checks will not be accepted as a method of payment after October 9th when delinquent notices are mailed out.
Convenience Fee
There will be a convenience fee charged for credit card and electronic check charges that is based on the amount of your payment. The convenience fee will be disclosed to the taxpayer prior to finalization of the transaction. Credit card payments are available by phone or via the internet only. Electronic check payments are available by phone and internet only. Credit card and electronic check payment options will be available through October 30, 2023.
PLEASE NOTE: The phone payment option is now handled by a call center where a customer service representative will assist with phone payments. There will be an additional $2.50 service fee (in addition to the convenience fee) added for making a payment by phone. The County does not receive any part of this service fee. An automated service is not available at this time.
Final Notice
Final notice for unpaid 2022 real estate taxes will be mailed out after October 9, 2023. After the date final notices are sent out, the Collector will collect $10 from the taxpayer to cover the costs of registered mailing and the costs of advertisement and publication of the delinquent parcels. Additional fees of $113, as allowed by State Statute, will be added at the time of the tax sale which will be held on November 6, 2023.
Tax Sale
All payments must be received in the Treasurer's office by November 3, 2023 at 5 p.m. to avoid the tax sale. Postmarked envelopes will not be accepted. No payments will be accepted the day of the tax sale.
